Heater for Hot Yoga Buying Guide

How is Hot yoga Good for You

Hot yoga is a unique form of exercise as it goes beyond stretching. It’s more challenging because you need to perform yoga in a room above normal room temperature. Yes, you need to sweat it out!

If performed correctly and safely, hot yoga can offer the following advantages.

  • Increased flexibility: Heat makes your muscles more flexible, so you’ll stretch deeper within every pose like a pro.
  • Burns more calories: The yoga poses plus the hot temperature make you sweat and burn more calories than traditional yoga workout done in a cold studio.
  • Better cardio workout: The extra challenge of the heat makes your heart beat faster, making it a better cardiovascular workout than traditional yoga.
  • Reduces stress: Breathing is key to reducing stress. When you’re in a hot room, you focus more on your breathing. So, hot yoga helps you relax better.
  • Improves lung capacity: Breathing in a hot room is hard but it helps in making your lungs stronger.

How To Build a Hot Yoga Room

To do hot yoga, your space needs to be above room temperature. To create the perfect hot yoga environment, you need to get the right hot yoga temperature and humidity. Modern Building Services recommend aiming for 40 degrees Celsius of temperature and at least 40% relative humidity.

The best way to heat your room is to use an electric heater, like the products we reviewed below. The cheaper method is to use a wood burner or fireplace. To heat quickly, you might want to line your walls with 1/2-inch foam and put a carpet on the floor.

Things To Consider When Buying A Good Heater For Hot Yoga

Heater Type

There are four main types of heaters: fan-forced, PTC, convection, and radiant. The fan-forced heater has air heated by coils and spread into the room. It produces quick and even heat.

The PTC heater features ceramic and aluminum heating elements to heat the air and it’s ideal in giving quick, powerful heat. The convection heater offers quiet, gradual heat while the infrared quartz provides targeted heat with its glowing elements.

Safety Features

If left unsupervised, the heater can easily get overheated and become a fire hazard. For this reason, you need a heater with safety features, like an automatic shut-off feature to turn off the unit according to the programmed time you set. Top-quality heaters also offer overheat protection and tip-over shut off function to automatically shut down when the unit is knocked over accidentally.

Room Coverage Area

You want to know the coverage area that the heater will provide so you’ll know whether it’s enough to warm your room. Generally, a 15000 watt-powered heater can heat a room of 150 square inches, but with efficient technology a device can perform better.

Noise Level

Since you’ll be focusing on your breathing when doing hot yoga at home, you want a heater that will be as quiet as possible. Consider non-fan-forced models to ensure quiet operation.

  1. I bought the Dr. INFRARED.
It does not heat higher than 85°F.
Which is not even close to hot enough for hot yoga, practiceed in 105°. It does not even qualify for warm yoga which is considered 90°-100°.
    Very disappointed.
