Yoga Mats for Tall People:
The Buying Guide
Picking a yoga mat for your tall friend is difficult if you don’t know where to start. For your convenience, here’s a guide that will help you choose the best yoga mat.
Finding the Right Yoga Mat Length
A standard-sized mat measuring 68″ x 24″ is enough room for anyone who is 6 feet and below. With this size, an individual with average height can perform a full sun salutation comfortably. Choose a longer mat that measures around 70-73 inches if your feet go out from the edge of the mat when doing a wide stance yoga pose, like downward-facing dog.
For taller people, an 80 to 85-inch yoga mat may suffice. This large size gives enough room for taller people to stretch and extend their bodies into different yoga positions. It also protects your hands and feet from touching the dirty floor.
What to Look For
Materials
The best material for long yoga mats should be durable and easy to clean. It should be eco-friendly and free from toxins like phthalates and latex. The most common materials for yoga mats are PVC, PER, and natural rubber.
PVC may have a high-stick factor, it may contain carcinogenic byproducts. PER is becoming a famous environmentally friendly alternative to PVC. Natural rubber may be eco-friendly, but they’re not recommended for those with latex allergies.
Thickness
Yoga mats may be available in different thicknesses, from 6mm to 8mm. If you’re somewhat heavy, look for a mat with adequate cushion. Opt for lightweight mats if you plan to use them for travel.
Grip
The best way to determine the grip of a yoga mat is to look at its stickiness. If it holds onto your hand and feet, then that mat surely offers an excellent grip. PVC mats have the best grip, but they may not be as eco-friendly as rubber. To get the best of both worlds, look for eco-friendly PVC.
